What parents need?

Foundation Will

Your basic Will is the foundation of good estate planning and your first step (and for some, the only step) towards securing a legacy for future generations. A correctly drafted Will is going to state:

  • Executors - These are the people that administer your Will and make sure that your wishes are met. These should be people who you trust.
  • Guardians – These are the people nominated to look after and take parental responsibility over your children under 18. The most important reason for a Will for young families.
  • Beneficiaries – These are the people who will benefit from your estate, it can be shares of your assets, or specific gifts. Ultimately you can give whatever you own to whoever you like; it is our job to make sure this does not cause more harm than good 😊

Property Protection Will

With the introduction of what is called a Life Interest Trust (LIT), you can protect your property against sideways disinheritance. Sideways disinheritance is when a spouse dies and leaves everything to the survivor, a few years go by and the survivor remarries, they then decide to leave the entire estate to new spouse, or split the estate etc. By utilising the LIT you can ensure your share of the estate passes to your children after the survivor has died, even if they have married etc. It is something that I personally have in my Will, it is not to restrict my wife if I were to pass, quite the opposite. It enables her to live her life without worrying about jeopardising my wishes. This trust is in written into your Will on top of the foundation that is included in the Simple Will.

Unlimited Amendments (POD)

It is all well and good getting your Will drafted now, but what happens if you move, you have more children or you simply need to change a few things. Well with our POD, you join a membership with us that enables you to have unlimited amendments. That way, your Will can stay relevant as your life changes. Not only that, but we can also keep your Will in secure storage, so it is easily retrievable and protected from damage. You receive a copy (or copies) for reference, but the original document remains safe and secure.
